As part of the ongoing Design Insights panel series by Loods 6, the third edition “Home is where… is” took place on June 12th in Amsterdam, exploring the evolving role of interior design as a reflection of identity, values, and lifestyle. Set within the creative context of Loods 6, the evening invited perspectives on how our living spaces serve not only as shelters, but as deeply personal and practical expressions of who we are.
Satyendra Pakhalé took part in the discussion alongside Ollee Means and Anna Aagaard Jensen, with moderation of Marjolein van Zanten. In response to the evening’s theme, Pakhalé presented his own oeuvre Frida Pitcher Vase, reflecting on it as a timeless object found across cultures, ancient yet contemporary. He described it as embodying the essence of our being, a domestic object that brings warmth and presence into a space. Through this personal and symbolic gesture, Pakhalé illustrated his view: “Home is where WARMTH is,” offering insight into design and the spirit behind his work.
Satyendra Pakhalé’s approach to creation transcends conventional boundaries, seamlessly blending elements that often appear as opposites – be it high or low tech, industrial production versus traditional crafts, or the balance between functionality and poetic expression. He explores diverse cultural roots while creating contemporary objects and architectural spaces with the awareness that being a designer means being socially and culturally responsible. In Pakhalé’s view, ‘Design is a cultural act about justice as much as utility and beauty’.
